The partners have recognised the need to support SMEs in internationalising their activities and improving their innovation potential by enabling them to commercialise MS&E innovations and thus widening out their activities on a transnational level.

Therefore in a first step competence and innovation maps within the participating regions were elaborated in order to first of all list relevant actors in the public and privat sector which work in the field of material sciences and engineering. The identified institutes were specified in regional maps which together constitute the basis for a joint "competence and innovation landscape" in a broad, transnational context.

One core output of FLAME is the virtual landscape of all competences and fields of innovation within the examined SMEs and other MS&E actors that enable the project partners to enlarge their network and to uncover opportunities for further cooperation potentials and activities.
